Welcome, Dear Friend, to Day 1 of my year-long challenge to create something new every day!
I began with this sea-foamy ensemble:
Today, we’re just going to focus on the skirt. :)
You can’t see this in the pic above, because I wash everything before I let it touch my tender skin, but the skirt was covered in coffee stains! The pic below is pre-wash.
I used a stain-fighting pre-treatment and tossed the skirt in the wash on the hand-wash setting. The label said, “Dry Clean Only”, but I felt comfortable cheating. It’s made of polyester, so I figured it would be okay. It was. :)
My inspiration for what I did next came from The Sartorialist.
I love this look! Do you see that awesome brooch on the waist of her skirt? Do you see how her skirt is completely sheer except where the dress she’s wearing under the skirt (I’m assuming that’s what I’m seeing here) shows? I decided to mimic this a bit.
First, I trimmed the lining of my skirt to be much shorter than the sheer part, but long enough to cover my naughty bits. :)
Next, I hemmed the lining’s raw edge, and pressed my new hem.
Unlike that svelte blonde above, I didn’t have a very large brooch, so I took two of my favorites and pinned them to the waistline side by side.
My new skirt was perfect for a delightfully sunny July day!
I’m certainly not as limbsome or blonde as the pretty lady in The Sartorialist, but I think my skirt definitely rivals hers! :)
