Day 214: Jilly Pulitzer Dress

Day 215: Blue Skies Dress
Day 213: D'oh! Dress

When I saw this $1 frock, I really fell for the huge but soft floral print.  :)

Isn't it pretty? :)

This dress is as dated as all get out, but if you’ve been reading this blog for any time at all, you know that’s no big deal.  I was about to start making my snips when I saw a bunch of these guys.  :(

Rust Stains! :(

I counted five stains all over the dress.  As much as I hated to do it, this dress was going to have to change its colors!

Soon this dress will be in the pink! :)

As I prepped the dye bath, I noticed that I had used the last of my big salt containers on my last dye job.  Undaunted, I raided the shakers and grinders!

In ya go!
Say "When"! :)

The fuchsia dye looked lovely in my machine.  :)

Such a beautiful hue! :)

When my dress was done with its bath, those rust stains were no longer visible.  Phew!  :)

Now it’s time to tackle that really awkward length.

Chop!

In went some pins…

Pins!

…and a brand new hem!

Whirrrrrrrr!

I originally planned on shortening those sleeves, but today was just a wee bit too chilly for that.  I rolled them up past my elbows, and was good to go!

I think I'm warming up to Pink! :)

I’ve never been much of a pink fan, but I think some of you guys might be right…it does seem to be a nice color for my hair color and skin tone. :)

My new dress is frightfully similar to this Lilly Pulitzer number that sells for $105.

That'll be $105...Suckers!

Of course mine cost one teensy dollar and half a packet of dye.  ;)

Think Pink!

Cheers!

  1. I love it! It looks brand new. I learned from Jeanne Bice of Quacker Factory that pink really makes everyone look younger and better. I used to hate pink but I started wearing it more and I think she was right. I think I look better and I constantly get compliments when wearing pink and none in other colors.

  2. What’s with the dark stains that make the dress look dirty in a bunch of places. Didn’t see them til you dyed it.

  3. You should wear pink EVERYDAY!! It is a fantastic color for you!! I might be a little bias since my favorite color is pink…but it still looks great on you!!
I’m having so much funny going through your archives…I think I’m going to try some refashioning myself, from my own closet first!!
    Keep up the great work!!
