Day 136: Scrap Busting Headband

Today’s refashion comes from my scrap drawer.  🙂  Does anyone remember my Crop Rotation top from May?  Remember how I chopped off that elastic bottom to make a cute crop top?

The top is cropped, but what about the bottom?

Well?

First, I cut off everything that wasn’t part of the elastic bottom.  Then I measured the elastic and cut it small enough to fit around my head.

Snippy Snippy!

I sewed the ends together, like so:

Whirrrrrr!

And that’s it!  I actually had enough elastic to make not one, but TWO headbands!  🙂  Perfect for keeping the bulk of my hair out of my face while cooking.  Sewing on a pretty ornamental button didn’t hurt either.  🙂

A sweet use of scraps! 🙂

The button makes it better!

I wore my handy headband while making my AH-MAZING Turkey Chili!  🙂

Mmmmmm! Chili!

I don’t know if many of you guys know it or not, but I cook quite a bit.  🙂  My biggest culinary challenge is making healthy dishes that my veggie-phobic Fella will actually eat.  My Turkey Chili is a perfect way to hide tons of veggies beneath a hearty, meaty facade.

I know this isn’t a food blog, but I can’t help but share the recipe.  I think the moms out there might appreciate it.  🙂

Completely Awesome Turkey Chili (A very loose recipe)

Sauté onions in olive oil, then brown turkey meat. Then add next 10 ingredients. Bring to a boil, and then simmer for 20-30 minutes (or longer if you have the time). Add beans about 5-10 minutes before you serve.

If you or anyone you’re cooking for has a texture issue with any of the veggies in this recipe, just throw it in your food processor and turn it to mush.  It’ll still add to the flavor (and nutrient content), but you won’t have to deal with that “yick!” face from your little ones (or significant other).  🙂

Enjoy!  🙂

Love chilli and yours sounds great. Of course, almost goes without saying that I love the hairband too!

I love this chili! And it’s so healthy too! Thanks!

I have a similar recipe that i make for my family to hide all the veggies. I call it chipolte burrito soup. It is AH MAZING! I’m going to try your soup this week!
