About

Welcome, Dear Friends to

ReFashionista: Year 2!

For one year, I’ll be wearing your rejected rejects…clothing that was donated, but too damaged to sell, and destined for the landfill.  The lovely folks at Revente’s Last Call, Revente, and Sid & Nancy have been kind enough to donate their damaged stuff to help make my wardrobe for a year.

That’s right…I will be remaking something new every day for one year.

It doesn’t end there, folks.  I’ll be donating everything I remake to Revente’s Last Call, where all profits go to the Women’s Shelter.

However, I might throw in an occasional 50 cent or $1.00 piece,  just to keep things interesting.  ;)

In a nutshell:

*Yay!  I’m helping keep clothing out of the landfill!

*Yay!  I’m helping women in need!

*Yay!  I’m using my creativity to do something more than a little nutty!

I really hope I’m clever enough for this.  :)

Now…let’s get to some bloggery!

I stumbled on this blog when I searched for re-fashion blogs on Google. This blog is awesome and I saw your creations are really cool, and very chic….and I can never tell them it’s refashioned if I don’t look at the “before.”
I also would like to do some refashioning and blog about it…..but the BIGGEST problem is I don’t know how to sew. But that is one of my top list things to do this year—to enroll in a sewing class and learn making pretty clothes like you do.

What a joy to come across your blog! I literally looked at every page from start to finish; such an inspiration. Really touching when I read the post about your Grandmother… I too lost mine a few years back and she is the one that made me want to sew. I have dabbled in sewing for a long time and have finally made the decision to start taking classes in January and I am more than thrilled. This just gave me the boost I needed! Thank you for sharing and for all that you have done to help a wonderful cause.
I wish you all the best!!

I’m doing something of a similar sort, but you have a much greater objective! love that not only are you eliminating waste but doing something great for others. I’m trying to eliminate waste, save money and show that you don’t have to spend a ton of $$ to look amazing! http://secondhandchallenge.wordpress.com/

So, I like other commenters have just recently dived into refashioning. I’ve always had to shop at thrift stores, and honestly didn’t mind because we always rooted out some awesome things, but now I’ve finally gotten to the point where I’m not taking clothes at face value, but seeing the potential to be so much better. Your blog has been inspirational, a source of some great ideas in how to update awesome (and some not so awesome) vintage pieces and I thank you for blogging! I have read every single entry all the way back to when you started and I check back daily to see what you’ve come up with for each new day. Love your blog and refashions and sending encouragement from Jersey!

You are doing some great things here! I am a friend of Whitney and Mike’s and you and I have run into each other at a few events. Anyhow, I’ve sent your blog address along to my mom, who is a local artist that thrives on reusing waste. I think she’ll enjoy it! Her blog is leemalerich.blogspot.com

  22. Interesting ideas. Keep it up.

I came across your blog yesterday afternoon and spent the whole time going through the posts for creative inspiration… I’ve recently lost 50lbs and all my old clothes are like tents so it’s nice to get some ideas so I can rehash my old favourites and celebrate my new body!

Keep up the good work, I’ll be checking in for a daily update in inspiration!

    I hope you’re well

You are like a fashion wizard or something! You have a very good eye and creative mind for recycling “rejected rejects”. It is awesome, what you’re doing. Now I’ll think more than twice before I throw away clothes, and scour my mom and grandmother’s closets for hidden treasures! :)

I found your blog on Pinterest yesterday evening and was on it until1:00 am this morning, and didn’t want to stop then. I have been sewing since I was a little girl, learned from my mother, who made all mine and my siblings clothes. You have shown me things that I never even thought about before. The way you can take a skirt and make a dress out of it by just sewing seams up from the bottom and incorporate the sleeves in the same way, is something I would not have thought possible. I love the things you make out of these cast-offs. I, too, have searched thrift stores for clothing, but I usually just look for fabrics, buttons,or trim that I love and can possibly use. I had never thought of redoing them the way you do. You have a very creative mind and I admire the way you can see the things in these items that anyone else would never even imagine. You have inspired me to look at thrift store items in a completely different way, and even my own clothing that I thought I was going to have to discard. Good luck in your quest to finish this project and in all your future endeavors.
