Day 287: Hibiscus Dress

Okay, you guys!  Pay attention, because what you’re about to see is my personal FAVORITE refashion to date!  🙂  🙂  🙂  🙂  🙂

It all began with this $1 skirt.

Innocuous enough, right?

You’ve seen a lot of skirt to dress refashes on this blog, but not quite like this.  🙂  I put the skirt on my dress form like so:

Pinning a sleeve!

Then I sewed a line where I pinned out my future sleeve!

Whirrrr!!!!

Then I sewed another line next to the first one!

Whirrrrr #2!!!!

I made a cut between the two lines, like so:

Do you see where this is going???? 🙂

I tightened up the non-sleeve side to make my new dress more fitted.

Just an inch or so!

I cut off the excess fabric, and now I have this ah-maz-ing new frock!!!  🙂 🙂 🙂

Voila!!!

I have a huge crush on this one, folks! 🙂

I wore my fabu new dress to spend some quality/quantity time with a delightful friend from out of town who sneakily snapped the following pic.  🙂

Feeling shy about the impromptu photo shoot. 🙂

Cheers!

I have just GOT to try this skirt to dress refashion idea! Looks sooooo great on you! Cheers indeed.

I love the one-sleeve look! I just did one for Refashion Co-op. This idea is even easier than what I did, and I will have to try it soon. You rock, Jillian!

I can see why it’s your favourite, it’s gorgeous!

Amazing! I love the colors too.

What a great idea – for me it would have to be a top as I don´t have the legs for this, but wow!

This is completely awesome and absolutely the right print to do that with! Looks fabulous on you.

AMAZING print! That’s so simple! And easy to tailor the sleeve to your tastes. (I’m trying it tonight btw. Probably see it @ refashion co-op soon) LOVE it, nice job, as always.

I enjoy reading your site. Wish I had the energy of the young again. This is such a clever hobby, happy sewing.

You did an incredible job with this one and to think it only cost $1! Way to go!

Love this. The sleeve really makes it.

I want it!!!! you’re incredible!

I see why you love this one so much! I have two blouses with sleeves like this…. TWO sleeves per blouse, might I add (haha!. I lovingly refer to them as “bird sleeves”. That print is beautiful as a dress but FUGLY as a skirt ( < just my humble opinion). How is it that one can take a print like this and change the way it looks JUST by putting it on your top half rather than your bottom half? It looks simply gorgeous on you and brings out your pretty face and smile. I can’t get over how pretty you look in it.

Absolutely adorable!
