Day 288: Off The Grid Dress
Sometimes the Universe helps a tired and slightly burned-out young lady out. 🙂 Like when a friend invites her to stay at her family’s beach house for a nice relaxing weekend! 🙂 This was to be such a weekend, and the timing simply couldn’t have been better!
But before I trekked off to Pawleys Island with friends, I needed something to wear for the journey! I chose this lightweight and breathable number.
I love the blue hue (ocean!), the green leaves (seaweed, kelp, or some such thing!), and the comfy, lightweight fabric (comfy, lightweight fabric!).
However, it’s fiercely frumptastic, and something must be done!
First, I took the whole thing in 1″ on each side.
Then, I chopped off a bunch of length!
This next step might seem odd, but just bear with me, okay? 🙂 I really wanted this dress to be completely fun and casual. After trimming the bottom off, I saw that this fabric was definitely going to fray, but I actually liked how it looked. I ran the bottom of the dress through my machine, adding a single line of stitching just slightly above where I wanted to let the bottom fray. This way, it would have that funky frayed look, but it wouldn’t go too far! 🙂
Now my dress is all done, and ready for fun!
When I arrived at the beach house, I was informed that there was no interweb access. Which was fine with me. I kind of needed to step off the grid for a couple of days. 🙂 Don’t worry, the refashions happened, and you’re going to see them, but this is why you haven’t seen them sooner. 🙂
Here’s the view from the porch of the beach house:
As the sun set, it began to get a bit chilly! No worries! I came prepared to layer!
Sadly, I didn’t take very many pics, but here are a few of the fun people I spent the day with. 🙂
Cheers!

Good for you Jillian to take a well deserved break !!! Looking forward to seeing the new refashions!
Your blog is great! Thank you for so much the inspiration. Since reading your blog, I’ve been doing refashions for myself and family. A month or so ago I brought dress similar to the one in your post (it’s blue with a bunch of flowers). It was a size 3x and I’m a 6 so I chopped it up, sewed to fit me. I wouldn’t have ever thought to do stuff like that before reading this blog. 🙂
Lovely and a weekend you needed and deserved!
You are truly blessed to have so many great friends! I really enjoy reading your blog!
Anthro has a dress almost identical to this one on their website right now. You rock.
