Monsters on Main Street Dress
Warmth is finally here and it’s here to stay! 🙂 Huzzah!!! One of my favorite things about warmer weather is how nicely it pairs with a walk down Columbia’s Main Street to check out some fun local art!
When If found out there would be Monsters on Main Street for April’s First Thursday on Main monthly art event, I knew I had to see them (and defend my fellow citizens if necessary)!
After work, I ran home for a quick costume change, but all I could find was this $1 thrifted find:
This is such an easy one, and it doesn’t involve one teensy bit of sewing!
First, I got rid of these little guys…
Then, I just buttoned the dress up except for the top button and tied the arms around my waist.
TA-DA!!!! Instant Dress!
I was happy to see lots of people out and about, including The Godzilla Guy, Sean McGuinness himself!
Other artists managed to make it out as well!
And of course, Arts Leaders are people too!
My tied-on dress stayed up just fine…
…and luckily those monsters kept to themselves!
So yes, this was a totally simple refashion, but I’m okay with that. Just playing with drape, twisting, and tying can really get your creative juices flowing. I plan on doing another refashion with this shirt that actually involves sewing, but I’ll miss my tied-on dress when this happens. 🙂
Cheers!

Gigantic…A Big Big Dress!
Today’s piece requires NO SEWING WHATSOEVER! I figured it was about time I did another no-sew entry for you sewaphobes out there. Armed only with my creativity, I had the task of transforming this huuuuuge housedress into something fun for Mr. B’s Goodtime Karaoke Explosion.
I wasn’t going to be needing any sleeves on this lovely 70-something degree evening, so I decided to go the strapless route while I still can! I looooove letting my shoulders roam free!
To make this happen, I unbuttoned all but the 3 lower buttons on the neck of the dress and turned it around on me like so…
Then, with a little help, I tied the arms of the dress in the back into a double knot. This dress wasn’t going anywhere!
After tucking in those buttons and button holes, I had a cute lil numba to belt out a mean ditty in (Gigantic by the Pixies). 🙂
In the time I saved by not having to sew anything, I made some delish Bacon-Wrapped Pork Chops!
Just wrap those guys in a couple of slices of bacon, bake @ 400 degrees for 30 min, Then broil for 5 min (to crisp that bacon…mmmmm…baaaacon…) and voila! 🙂
