Day 146: Fixing a Fail Skirt

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! I hope all of you are having a great long weekend with your nearest and dearest.  Warm fuzzy wishes all around!  ๐Ÿ™‚

I needed something nice to wear for a Turkey Day lunch at my Fella’s Mom’s house.

This'll do!

I like the fall colors in this dress, as well as the pretty floral pattern.  But that’s about it.  It’s too big and frumpy for moi!  ๐Ÿ™‚

I got started by taking in the dress 1″ on each side.

Taking it in! ๐Ÿ™‚

Then, I shortened it a good bit.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Hem!

Rather than just toss out the excess material from the bottom of the dress, I refashed a sweet sash!  ๐Ÿ™‚

Stitchin' a Sash!

I pressed all my seams, and now I have a perfect Thanksgiving Day frock.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Gobble Gobble!

By day, the weather was sunny and warm.  By night, it got downright chilly!

Brrrrrrr!

This was such a lovely day, spent with the Fella’s fun fam (yay for alliteration!).  I hope yours was just as nice.  ๐Ÿ™‚

I have just started refashioning clothing that i have gotten at goodwill. You are such an inspiration to me in my efforts to find new cool ways to wear clothing. Even though i love what you have done on many of your projects i cant wear them. I am Mormon. So my skirts and shorts have to be around knee length and my sleeves have to be caped sleeve length. Do you think that you could give me some suggestions on refashions that i could do that are cute, trendy, and that my church would find appropriate. thank you so much

      Hi there! Thanks so much!

Honestly, I feel like you’re kind of in luck right now, as a lot of styles are leaning towards being a bit longer. ๐Ÿ™‚ How about doing some high-low hemmed skirts (just not too high)? Capped sleeves are cute, too! The “vintage” look (think, pretty full skirts) is always an option that might work really well for you too.

I used to really hate my legs, so I would wear a short dress layered over a longer skirt. This can look really fun/kind of boho too. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hope this helps. ๐Ÿ™‚

What do you think?
