Day 287: Hibiscus Dress

Day 288: Off The Grid Dress
Day 286: No Tiers Shed Skirt

Okay, you guys!  Pay attention, because what you’re about to see is my personal FAVORITE refashion to date!  🙂  🙂  🙂  🙂  🙂

It all began with this $1 skirt.

Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 2
Innocuous enough, right?

You’ve seen a lot of skirt to dress refashes on this blog, but not quite like this.  🙂  I put the skirt on my dress form like so:

Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 3
Pinning a sleeve!

Then I sewed a line where I pinned out my future sleeve!

Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 4
Whirrrr!!!!

Then I sewed another line next to the first one!

Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 5
Whirrrrr #2!!!!

I made a cut between the two lines, like so:

Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 6
Do you see where this is going???? 🙂

I tightened up the non-sleeve side to make my new dress more fitted.

Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 7
Just an inch or so!

I cut off the excess fabric, and now I have this ah-maz-ing new frock!!!  🙂 🙂 🙂

Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 8
Voila!!!
Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 9
I have a huge crush on this one, folks! 🙂

I wore my fabu new dress to spend some quality/quantity time with a delightful friend from out of town who sneakily snapped the following pic.  🙂

Day 287: Hibiscus Dress 10
Feeling shy about the impromptu photo shoot. 🙂

Cheers!

Wow, you are absolutely the definition of creative! I’d have never thought of this one. I love it! I know I’ll end up trying some version of this in the future. You’re very crafty and have such a beautiful, creative talent! I have only just now seen your blog, and this post intrigued me sooo much (I too refashion tons of old crap and make it beautiful Lol) and got to looking through your other posts, and came to this conclusion: you have got to be the best re-fashion-er I have ever seen yet! Nice job. I’m going to be following you forever. 😉

P.S. Wonder if you could make a long sleeved (two sleeved) frock type dress with a skirt like this, if it were a bit bigger…. Now my crafty side is goin’! 🙂

I see why you love this one so much! I have two blouses with sleeves like this…. TWO sleeves per blouse, might I add (haha!. I lovingly refer to them as “bird sleeves”. That print is beautiful as a dress but FUGLY as a skirt ( < just my humble opinion). How is it that one can take a print like this and change the way it looks JUST by putting it on your top half rather than your bottom half? It looks simply gorgeous on you and brings out your pretty face and smile. I can't get over how pretty you look in it.

I enjoy reading your site. Wish I had the energy of the young again. This is such a clever hobby, happy sewing.

AMAZING print! That’s so simple! And easy to tailor the sleeve to your tastes. (I’m trying it tonight btw. Probably see it @ refashion co-op soon) LOVE it, nice job, as always.

I love the one-sleeve look! I just did one for Refashion Co-op. This idea is even easier than what I did, and I will have to try it soon. You rock, Jillian!

What do you think?
