Day 337: An Art Collector's '90s Collared Dress Refashion 2
Oooooh! Sweet collar….not! ๐Ÿ˜›

As you can see, I’m not entirely thrilled about this dress, folks.

This ’90s collared dress is made of a lovely lightweight linen (perfect for a hot SC day), and that coral hue is just delightful.  But I can’t get over that flippin’ collar!  :/

An amputation is in order, friends.

Day 337: An Art Collector's '90s Collared Dress Refashion 3
It’s a mercy killing, I swear! ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay!  That ugly collar is gone, freeing up what is actually a very pretty V-neck.  ๐Ÿ™‚  But something had to be done about that length!

Day 337: An Art Collector's '90s Collared Dress Refashion 4

I couldn’t just leave that raw edge fraying all over the place, so under the needle it went!  ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 337: An Art Collector's '90s Collared Dress Refashion 5
A brand new day & a brand new hem!

I’m almost done!  ๐Ÿ™‚  This dress, though shortened and de-collared was still waaaay to big for me.

Not to worry!  I wrapped those weirdo side sash thingies around me twice and tied them in the front.  Problem solved!  I rolled the sleeves up twice, and was good to go!

I headed off to the Tapp’s Art Center for their Pretty Girls Presents Concept: Consumerism Art Show.

Day 337: An Art Collector's '90s Collared Dress Refashion 6
Gotta have art! ๐Ÿ™‚

See that yellowy/orangey piece behind me?  I actually ended up buying it!  ๐Ÿ™‚  Not buying any new clothes this year has really freed up my art budget!  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Day 337: An Art Collector's '90s Collared Dress Refashion 7
She made that apron herself! ๐Ÿ™‚
Day 337: An Art Collector's '90s Collared Dress Refashion 8
You should go to this! ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers!  ๐Ÿ™‚

Cute Nice up date. Funny thing lol I had s dress like this one when I was in my early thirties (about 30 years agp). Back in my mini van mom days. I loved the lace collar. Times change and time marches on.

Love how you rescue the throwaways that are made of good fabrics….I too look for large skirts, dresses made of silk, linen, cotton to cut into a new top or skirt. The price of quality fabrics these days: forgetaboutit.

You are my hero ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have a new outlook on thrift store finds… Thrift Store Rehab ;D I’m having so much fun. You have the best site so far. We adore you…Just trying to figure out how to get to Day 1 ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love the idea of turning something she bought at a thrift store into something that almost looks like a designer dress. One thing I would ad is a monogram. I’m not sure if the machine that she uses is capable of embroidering but that would add more personalized and fancy elements.

Just saw this post on Pinterest and I could not stop laughing. I still have that same dress in my closet. 25 years ago it was very fashionable, but since I paid $80 for the Easter dress, which I rarely did, I could not part with it. I just kept thinking there was something I could do with all that fabric and I mean fabric, that thing drug the floor it was so long. Although, not being able to see my legs was great since I didn’t have to wear pantyhose and back then that was a big no-no in church.

I love your make over and I can’t wait to pull all of my heavily beaded monster collar dresses out of the closet and free them or I guess free me. Thank you so much for your greatly needed inspiration.

Just found your blog this week and am perusing for inspiration. I think this is one of my favorite refashions! Such very different looks and not too tricky!

Okay really loving this one too!!! I can see me wearing something like this to work. I have two dresses I recently bought from the thrift store and was just going to have them altered a little bit to fit, but now I ‘m thinking of possibly doing something a little more drastic. Maybe I can send you pictures and you can give me your input? what do ya think?

What do you think?
