Q&A Monday
Happy Monday , Everybody! 🙂 It’s time for our weekly Q&A! 🙂
This week’s question comes from Rachel, and it’s one I get a lot.
Q: How much time do you spend on your refashions?
A: It varies pretty wildly. For instance, this refashion took around 4.5 hours!

If you’re a fairly long-time reader of my little blog, you know that this was the dress I wore for the Rachael Ray Show, so yeah…it was worth the effort! 😉
Of course, I’m not usually on TV (sad, I know!), so if I’m just running out for a hot dog, I only want to take about 30 minutes for a refashion, like this one (from waaaay back!).

When I’m really in a hurry, I only have time for a no-sew refash, which takes less than 5 minutes! 🙂

See? I actually plan my refashions around how much time I have that day to make something. It’s firmly ingrained in my daily routine at this point.
The more refashioning you do, the better you’ll get at predicting how long any given refash will take. Most of them will take between 30 minutes and 3 hours. Try not to get easily distracted. If you’ve DVRd Downton Abbey and want to watch it right away, move your ironing board into your living room and do your pinning & prepping in front of the TV. Mr. Carson would be impressed with your work ethic! 🙂
Cheers! 🙂

Do you know where I can find a picture of the prom dress after you finished? The link you posted only have the before.

I’ll try to find it. They had it up, then took it down. Putting RR stuff on Youtube is apparently not allowed either. Lemme see…

I was looking for the after picture too and can’t seem to find it anywhere 🙁

Wow, you are amazing. I especially like the outfit you did for Rachael Ray. Great interview too 🙂 I do a lot of sewing, mostly draping my own stuff or from patterns, but I don’t do a lot of re-fashioning anymore. I did a lot when I first started sewing, but it sort of fell to the way side. How do you look at something and say “that would look great like this?” That’s my problem, I don;t have enough creativity like that. Keep up the good work!

The other day I finally stepped into a thrift store with the intent of refashioning something, just like you. It’s amazing how differently I went about shopping! Even if something looked dingy (but had a great shape), I knew I could just throw it in a dye bath. Anyway, I did find this fantastic embroidered silver blazer that I knew could be special after some tailoring. I’m pretty excited about it. I cheated a bit and thrifted a silk blouse that I feel is perfect the way it is. On that note, question! How often do you find clothes (if ever?) at the resale shop that you don’t have to modify at all?
Thanks!

Thanks! 🙂 Viva la Thrift! 🙂
I find lots of things that don’t need any help, because I go thrifting all the time.
I have it down to a science. 🙂 I know which stores are good for shoes, handbags, dresses, housewares, etc. and save time by only checking those areas most of the time. That’s one of the reasons I started Thrift Score Thursday…to show what treasures you can find if you’re willing to take a chance! 🙂

It’s amazing that the Rachael Ray show is where I first discovered you and we’re from the same town! That dress is one of my favorites so far and I can’t wait to start refashioning myself.

My fav refashion you have ever done is the white and yellow jumpsuit to grey dress! I have told so many people about that refashion in particular and turned them onto your blog! I love your refashions so much and they inspire me to try the same! I did one for my mothers 100th birthday party and everyone loved it!
