Send in the Clowns: A Jumpsuit-to-Dress Refashion
Elastic is Fantastic!

Hello Friends!  Wow.  This week has been crazy.  There’s a lot going on behind the scenes here at ReFashionista, as I’m trying to back up my blog and redesign it.  Both of these things have taken much, much, much longer than I anticipated.  I want to give a huge shout-out to my high school chum, Jessica for helping me get the backup done, and another huge shout-out to my friend, Jamie who is helping me totally revamp and rebrand this blog to make it something truly special.  I can’t wait to share it with you!

So…I’m getting by with a little help from my friends.  🙂

Wannabe Wednesday completely failed to happen this week.  :/  An unexpected towing incident (click the link if you want to see me publicly out myself for being a jerk) killed that.  I promise to make next week’s WW super-awesome to compensate for this.  🙂

Now that you’ve been thoroughly debriefed, Let’s unroll the first Thrift Score Thursday of the New Year!

While digging through the $1 handbags at one of my fave thrift stores, I found this beauty!

Isn't it lovely?
Isn’t it lovely?

Don’t you just love that beautiful black and white print?  How could anyone have given this up?

Oh wait…there’s a surprise inside!

WHAT?!?!
WHAT?!?!

Those of you who live outside of South Carolina may not get what’s so special about this clutch.  Luckily, I did.

This is a handmade Sophie Clutch, made and designed by a local artist by the name of Sally Peek.  You can check out her other Nana bags right here.  Finding this bag in a dollar box ‘o bags is a huge fluke, and an amazing bit of luck.  Her designs are incredibly popular here, and the only way someone would have given this bag up is if they just didn’t know what it was.

Seriously…read this article about her.  She’s awesome.

Finds like this don’t happen very often.  I just hope I haven’t used up all my thrift karma for the year in this one trip!

Cheers!

Guess what! I made a skirt from a man’s shirt like you taught me to! I feel so fashionable and I did it myself! Thank you for inspiring me to rethink things and to challenge myself. I feel so empowered!

  • Marcia

Love your blog. How do you find a great thrift store? I live in the Grand Rapids, MI area and have not come across one like yours where you find things for a $1…….

    • ReFashionista

Hi Marcia! You have to be unafraid to go to the really dodgy places in some sketchy areas of town. But then, some areas just don’t have super-cheap stores. Try yard sales too!

I read your column on the car. It was awesome… I could feel what you were feeling. The quality I admire about a person is their ability to “own it” when they’re wrong. Truly, thanks for posting that.

  • Leona

I am incredibly impressed with the strength of character that led you to do the right thing. Yeah, I read the post about the car. You are the 1% who does the right thing… maybe not right away, but who hasn’t been there? You did what’s right. I didn’t think I could be a bigger fan but BAM, I am.

    (cute clutch too!)

    Thanks for inspiring!

Great score! Love the bag, even without the name tag. Sally’s creations look fabulous. Yes, I checked them out and yes I read your post about the car-towing incident. Good for you for doing the right thing!

Now THAT was a find! Love it- you are right – someone did not know what they were getting rid of when they donated it. Can’t wait to see your new blog reveal. I always visit but don’t always comment. I love you-you are so creative and I LOVE your wacky sense of humor- NANA Diana

Thank you *Bows*. Im a size 14. I check the thrift stores allot for good deals and perhaps for a refashion but haven’t had much success. Your blog though inspires me to keep trying. #Tipmyhatofftoyou
