Day 366: The End? Wedding Dress Refashion

Ahhhhhhh!  How goes it, friends?  I’m taking a week off from work/refashioning/doing anything responsible whatsoever, but felt the need to let you guys know about a few Reallllllly cool things that are coming up!  🙂

First off, remember when I went to New York back in February?  Did any of you wonder why I did that (or why I was wearing false eyelashes in my after pics)?  Well…I was filmed on an epidsode of The Rachael Ray Show, which is being aired Thursday, July 5!!!!!  Check your local listings, folks!  You can see a snippet of my segment right here!  🙂

A Few Cool Things! 2
We’re totally BFFs now! So why doesn’t she take my calls…and why the restraining order, Rach? I mean geez…you steal ONE risotto pan…:)

That’s not all!  Revente’s Last Call is hosting a fun ReFashionista Day on July 5th!  If you live in the Columbia, SC area, you should come by and check out the show, as well as some sweet second-hand deals!  I promise to make an appearance (especially if they have wine). 🙂

In other cool news, I’m also a theatre reviewer for Jasper now!  I’m pretty darn stoked about it!   They say everyone’s a critic, and now I am that thing!  🙂

Ok.  Back to my week of boozing and sleeping.   It’s a tough gig, but someone’s gotta do it!  😉

Cheers!

  3. I never watch RR, was just flipping through the channels and BAM, there you were. You intrigued me with what you did with that girls prom dress, and your mission to refashion for an entire year. I immediately looked your blog up and I have been obsessed ever since. I am not a very good seamstress, so am a little intimidated, but I am determined to give this the old college try! Thanks for inspiring me!!!!!!

  9. I can’t believe I’ve only just found this blog. I’ve spent 2 days reading all your posts, it’s so inspiring and I have loads of clothes I’ve kept to one side to recycle, as well as one I bought for the sole purpose of making into something else. As soon as I’m better (sick atm) I will get to work now I’ve got a load of ideas from your blog…thanks for such a fantastic read! xxx

  11. Congrats on your year and all the maturing and wisdom that came w/ it. The good Lord has always shown me ways to redirect my path when I thought I had it in my head to go one way an opportunity would come along and I would just adapt. My soul is at peace after some growing up I had to do. I wish you well and pray for guidance to come from above. Also I’m looking forward for your next project
    Peace ; )

  13. You are amazing in more ways than one. You are def. a girl of several trades and so crafted and skilled. You wear your heart like you wear your clothes, fully on display..donating and recycling back to the women you donate to, I am sure you’ve brightened a lot of women’s days and gave them a lot of smiles.
Sorry I just caught onto you from watching Rachael yesterday, but so psyched I did. Your talent is beyond skilled or amazing. Seriously, you are effin’ awesome!
Loved what you did with that pink prom dress, now you’ve inspired to get my prom dress from my prom years ago refashioned, so would rather have you do it!
Hope your goals and dreams keep becoming aligned, etc. Best of luck in whatever you do!

  14. I just found your blog a couple of days ago and have been spending all of my free time reading it and getting inspired! I am so mad that I just saw this today and therefore missed the Rachel Ray show 🙁 but I’m going to look to see if I can find it elsewhere! 🙂 You are so amazing and have absolutely opened my eyes and let me see clothes differently! I especially like the simple skirt to dress refashions because they are something even I (who can’t even thread a needle -.-) can do! Thank you for sharing your fabulous creations!!

  18. You were wonderful on RR today!! I just found your blog last week and have been scrolling thru all the past refashions! I sew as a part time business (window treatments, etc) and have refashioned a few things for myself but you really inspired me to try it again!! I found a couple of things at our thrift store over the weekend and now have two new cute linen tops!! You did a great job on that prom dress and you are so cute and creative. Keep up the great work you do!!

  19. Watched the show today. You were fabulous, of course! I loved the end result of the dress. You have inspired me to the point that this non-crafty, no-idea how to even begin sewing is going to buy a machine and teach myself. I even have my first project in mind…a skirt that is a bit too long. Again, I am so glad I stumbled upon your blog!

  22. I saw you on the Rachael Ray show. Like what you did with the prom dress! Very pretty. I think that you’re quite creative & doing this for such a great cause. The women’s shelter saved my life a few years ago & it is because of the staff that I am where I am today. Thanks for being a ray of light in the world & best wishes for continued success.

  25. Jillian ! You were fantastic on the RR show ! The result of the dress is also fa-bu-lous ! It was very nice to hear your voice too. So how long did it take you to refashion that dress ? Do you have a picture of the back also ? And I was not aware that you wore those creations only once and donated them back. I am so inspired by that. I was really wondering what kind of closet space you had !!! You rock girl !

Love what you did with the bloomers, red ruffle dress, the scraps as a coverup, I could go on and on. Amazing. I think finding you is a sign I should learn how to use the machine I inherited. 🙂

  41. I just found this blog 2 days ago, and I have read it from beginning to this post here. I LOVE it all. I am so excited to see all the new things to come. And you have inspired me to learn how to sew. I hope someday I can look as good as you in clothes. Being a plus sized gal makes finding clothes a chore, I am losing weight though thankfully. And I have a few dresses that I would love to re-size along with me, and I see that may be possible which makes me happy. And can’t wait to watch Rachel on Thurs. Keep up the great work. And enjoy your vacation.

    • Kristin,
I did the exact same thing. Found her and read all of the posts in a matter of days, and right near the end of year 2! I was interested in learning to sew for quilting and simple clothing repairs before I stumbled upon this website, but now she has inspired me to try some clothing refashions! The clothing rack was the one place in Goodwill I hardly ever went to, because the clothes are usually ill fitting, out of style…whatever. Not anymore!
I also lost about 70lbs last year, and have gained about 25 back. I gave most of my large clothes away–to Goodwill, of course–but just found an old dress I’m dying to take in! Working on getting those extra pounds off once and for all.
Good luck with your weight loss!
