I wasn’t sure about this dress when I found it at a huge clearance sale at a local consignment store a few months ago.
As you can see, this dress is riddled with holes!
BUT, at $10 for All-You-Can-Stuff into a bag, I went ahead and bought it. 🙂
As I took a closer look, I noticed yet another flaw! :/
This just wouldn’t do for the cabaret I had tickets for that night! :/ Time to get to work!
First, I decided to turn this long maxi into more of a cocktail-length dress, by cutting off the bottom.
This also took care of all those holes!
I thought that keyhole neckline looked a bit dated on this dress, and wanted to take care of that shoulder tear too. So…I snipped!
Then, I pinned the neckline into a V-shape!
I stitched down that V, but I wasn’t quite done yet!
I still needed to take care of that bottom raw edge, which I did by pinning a new hem and stitching it down.
I finished my new dress just in time to head out the door!
I had a marvelous time at TORCH, a cabaret benefit that supports the work of Palmetto AIDS Life Support Services (PALSS). PALSS provides social services for people living with HIV and AIDS, as well as free testing and education as part of the effort to prevent the spread of HIV.
Cheers!
