When I found this big skirt in a bag of refashionables gifted to me from Revente’s Last Call, I got really excited!
The print is lovely, but I’m thinking today needed to be a jeans day!
Not to worry…I knew just what I’d need to do to turn this baggy skirt into an exotic Batwing Cover up/Cape Thing. 🙂
First, I turned my skirt inside-out and pinned a line right under the elastic waistband.
Then, I sewed it right up!
I turned the skirt right side out, and put it on my dress form.
I played with it a bit…figuring out exactly where I wanted the sleeves to be, and how long I wanted them to be as well.
Once I had the sleeves figured out and pinned, I ran them through my machine.

Now my DIY Batwing Cover up/Cape Thing is ready to step out into the world!
I wore my Cover up/Cape Thing to Cafe Strudel, where I enjoyed a big tasty plate of hash browns!
Cheers!

that should have been your kimono!
So, so, SO cute!!! Absolutely adorable!
Great idea for the waist band. That makes sense now. After I pinned it up I wondered if that would just be excess in the back. Thanks for the info. BTW: Love your blog.
What does the back look like when finished?
I realllly should have taken a pic of it, no? The back looks flowy and just sort of “there”.
I love the look so I am trying to be sure I understand before I create one. When you wear it, where does (what was the waist section) end up…..
I cut off the waist. It gets sewn up from the inside. I actually saved the elastic waistband and used it as a headband! 🙂
OMG it’s huge!!! Awesome 🙂
Love the colours and love the hash browns!
I WANT that. Seriously. I’ll pay.
