Day 230: Send in the Clowns: Tacky Jumpsuit to Dress Refashion
Today’s piece was so awful that I couldn’t just stop at one “before” pic! π

Okay…enough clowning around (wow that pun was awful, even for me!)! π
I wasn’t feeling that weird yellow and white giraffe print, so I dropped it into a bath of black and teal dye. π
After the bath was done, I unpicked the crotch of the jumpsuit and cut off the legs.
Then, I got to resizing!
I pinned the sides of my future dress on my dress form to make it more fitted.
I also pinned the front and the back of my future dress where I unpicked the legs.
I sewed up all my pinned areas, and chopped off the extra fabric.
My dress was looking realllllly cute already!
I gave it a new hem by folding the bottom edge under twice, pinning it, and then running it through my sewing machine.
…but still wasn’t entirely pleased.
I grabbed the legs I removed earlier, and turned them into a wide sash. π
Now my new dress was definitely ready for my second and last day in NYC!

Before flying back to SC, I stopped off for a bit of jitter-fighting vino! π

I hadn’t been to New York in a few years, so this was a really nifty little visit that reminded me of why I really should try to visit more often. π
With a little luck, maybe I can.
Cheers! π

I didn’t mind the before dye look, but the dyed look really looks fab. I would never have thought to try to dye it with teal. Nice job.

Wow great job on the transformation! With the grey-ish color it looks professional and like something my sister could wear to the office. π It’s totally different than the original and 1000x better.

I discovered your blog a few days ago and have been slowing reading back through all of your posts. I’m completely addicted π I think that this is definitely my fave!! You rock and might have finally given me the inspiration I need to learn to use the sewing machine I’ve had for *cough* 8 years *cough*.

Congratulations! You have graduated from a playful hobby with cutting off, hemming up, taking in leaving raw edges. . . to a taylor/seamstress that takes the fabrick from one object and cuts/pieces & sews, neatly finishing all edges and makes it into a completed piece of apparal that looks like it was professionally created, that you would purchase at a store. Well done!
Renee
Nicely, nicely done!
