Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans

Day 331: Herbie Tunic
Day 329: How to Upcycle a Men's Dress Shirt (No Sew)

Today’s refash comes from my own closet! 🙂  I have owned this pair of jeans for 12 years.

Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans 2

I never wear these.  The fit is great, but I just hate the extremely dated wash (from back when that sort of dingy look was “in”).  :/

I don’t know why it never occurred to me that all I needed to do to turn these jeans of last resort into my new faves was a bit of dye!  🙂

Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans 3
Double Trouble! 🙂

You can see I’m using a dark blue mixed with a bit of black.  I really want to get these as dark as I possibly can!

Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans 4
I’m dyeing a couple of other things in there as well! 🙂

I left the jeans in their dye bath for about an hour.  A thorough rinse and dry followed.

Check ’em out now!  🙂

Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans 5
Stylin’ with a LBD! 🙂

And just in case some of you wonder if I’m hiding anything under my little black dress…

Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans 6
See? The dye job went flawlessly! 🙂

I felt quite cool in my newly darkened jeans, and even struck a hipster pose!  😉

Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans 7
Dripping with Hipness! 🙂

I wore my new jeans for a fun happy hour at Hunter Gatherer with some fabulous people!  🙂

Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans 8
Hiya! 🙂
Day 330: Dark & Stormy Jeans 9
Indulging in one of my fave vices! 😉

  1. I am so intimidated to use dye, but I have several pairs of jeans that could use an update and most importantly a sweater that needs a refreshing. Can’t get rid of it because it’s just the best. I see you use your washer to dye. How do you manage to get the dye out without ruining future washes? Thank you. P.S. Love the Hunter Gatherer!

  2. I’m impressed that those jeans are in such good condition after 12 years! My knees always get worn through 🙂 I love your blog, keep it up! 🙂

      • Lol. I can’t believe she came back for more. Well handled, Jill. Well handled.

And THE JEANS. Simple yet brilliant solution. Doesn’t senile deserve to use a little dye to hide it’s age, too?

I always wear out the butt or inner thighs of my jeans first. I got the junk in the trunk.

  3. Okay who wears dresses over jeans anymore? The jeans would be so much cuter with a regular shirt! and the T-shirts you make into “sexy” mini skirts are hideous! And one more thing, why are you bald in the cover picture of you at the top of your page?

    • Hey Ashley! I wear dresses over jeans. Not all the time, but sometimes. Because I like it. I like my skirts too. 🙂 It’s okay for us to agree to disagree.

I’m bald in the photo, as it was taken after I shaved my head to raise money for the St. Baldricks Foundation for kids fighting cancer. 🙂

      • Wow – you handled that beautifully! And thank you for the dye-ing inspiration 🙂 Can’t believe I never thought of it.

  4. Really cute! Do have any trouble keeping that dye?? Even store-bought dark jeans have faded and bled into my other clothes. (I learned the hard way that I should separate my whites..)

What do you think?
