I was told that today’s outfit was reminiscent of two different films.
Perhaps it’ll make more sense when you see the back.

The leggings and boots are definitely 80’s inspired, and the dress was a $6 Goodwill find from last Valentine’s Day. That sumptuous kimono was a gift from a vintage-loving friend. 🙂
Here’s a closer look at details from the front that didn’t make it into the pic.
Now…if I can only find my Duckie. 😉
Cheers!
i adore the embroidery on back
Awesome ! I agree, clothes that I don’t prefer anymore take a short trip to my favorite charity thrift store that provides free dental care for children or another one that supports a shelter. I encourage everyone to find a thrift near you and find out about their charity. It makes it so much easier to part with loved items when I know that the money will be helping people. Also, shopping at thrift stores supports them !
Two friends and I (all seniors, but not fragile) go out to breakfast on Sunday and then go thrift shopping at the Goodwill Outlet to shovel through stuff. We take three cars so we can each go do other errands independently after. It’s a hoot ! During the week I troll 2-3 others, too
At church I always dress well thanks to the thrifted items. I almost always get compliments on my
outfits. I use a lot of scarves. I hope to see you use scarves sometime. I am making an infiniti scarf from a floral silk skirt.
It does remind me of Pretty in Pink. And yay for prefering Duckie!
My husbands uncle gave him an authentic kimono years ago and hubby said I could refash it. I try it on every now and then. I just can’t figure what to do with it yet.
Did the kimono come lined or did you (or your friend) line it? I didn’t know kimonos could come lined.
Love the blog !!! And love the retro clothing. Black fishnets would have been smashing with this. Are you still donating everything you have found or crafted ?
Thanks! 🙂 I’m not donating absolutely everything I make/wear like I did 4 years ago, but I DO make sure to donate when I’m done with my clothing to keep my tiny closet from getting too cluttered. 🙂 I like to think of it as a capture-refashion-realease program. 🙂
Just wanted to say that I’m so happy you are blogging again. It always makes happy to see your link in my email.
Be right back, gotta go watch Pretty in Pink…
Really like the dress/kimono/leggings combo!
You probably already know, but “Pretty in Pink” is showing in theaters nationwide this weekend as a 30th anniversary celebration!
Flashback to Doris Day! Love that styling of how you upcycle and modernize garments.
Guess I need to watch Pretty in Pink to get the reference. Love the red dress!
And I was thinking, without the leggings, The Devil Wore Prada!
🙂
A fabulous 80’s inspired outfit! Loving the kimono and the patterned leggings are just awesome Karen x
Exquisite outfit!!!!!
Kimonos as jackets are so cool! Works well with the dress.
Totally “Pretty in Pink” flashback!!!
