I think everyone’s mom had a shirt like this in the ’80s.

It was probably sent in the mail after the birth of their first child.

It’s shoulder padded. It’s sort of nautical. It’s not especially flattering.

Take a closer look!

Time for a quick no-sew halter top refashion!

I realize I haven’t done a no-sew refashion in a while. This refashion took all of one minute. Yes. It was that easy.

First, I made a chop right below the armpits of my top.

Choppity Chop!

Then, I flipped it upside-down and used the bottom drawstring as the halter part of my new top!

So simple!

This is definitely one of the easiest refashions I’ve ever done.

I think it turned out cute!

I styled my new top with dark high waisted jeans, navy boat shoes (really leaning into the whole nautical thing) and a pair of hoop earrings.

My new top had a great evening with Mr. Refashionista and our friend Miriam!

Game night!

The name of this card game is Vintage (appropriate, no?) and it’s really fun to play!

I also made friends with this sweet girl:

She didn’t care for me at first, but I won her over. 🙂

Cheers!

  1. Somehow my subscription to your blog got lost. I hadn’t received anything since you announced the cancer was back. You look great and I’m happy you are still refashioning.

  2. This is my first time commenting, as I just figured out how to do it. I love seeing all your recreations. My body type and style is different from yours, but you and your creativity inspire me to give things a go, so thank you.

  3. Search YouTube. There is a young woman named Wendy that has a great tutorial on how to convert. I’ve used the method several times and it looks like the shirt was made as a v neck.

  5. The ease of this redo makes it a great one. Just wondering how the drawstring feels. It’s so casual and no trace of the previous “style.”

  6. I truly admire you! Stay healthy. Any tips on changing a crew neck tee into a v-neck. I find crew neck so unappealing.

  7. Cute top idea! But…. what I really have to comment on is how freaking ADORABLE your hair looks! The itty bitty curls!! <3

  8. Cute cute ! And at first I thought the hip measurement needed to not exceed the underarm measurement . But, it is shorter so, it is very forgiving. Makes it more workable. Love it.

  10. You always amaze me with the way you take an item and flip it to become something so much better. Also, I admire your approach to giving good fabrics a second, more updated life. I love your eye for design almost as much as your spunk! Another great upcycle!
