I’d sort of been dreading the holidays this year.
I hadn’t made any real plans and thought I’d just ignore Christmas.
But then I got a call from a good friend who’s also had a lot to deal with this year and just wanted to lay low and have a casual holiday without any familial pressures. We’d hang out, I’d make French food, and we’d watch scary movies before heading off to a friend’s bonfire party.
It was a brilliant idea. 🙂 Buuuuut…I needed something festive to wear!
I chose this evergreen frock right here:
I usually find lace-up backs on dresses to be quite dated, but I thought this one looked festive and elf-like, so I let it stay.
French cooking is insanely time-consuming. I decided to tackle Julia Child’s Beef Bourguignon…which takes hours to prepare.
In other words, this refashion had to be quick!
First, I got rid of those huge shoulder pads.
Then, I cut off some of that length!
My new no-sew dress was ready to receive my guests!
Yep…I decided to invite a few other cool people over too!
They devoured the Beef Bourguignon!
My Christmas ended up being surprisingly merry. 🙂
I hope each of you also managed to find your own sort of happy this holiday season. 🙂
Cheers!
My year has been aaaawwwful! I credit bloggers like you for giving me inspiration to spend my lonely times tapping into creative outlets instead of sobbing in a corner! I’ve been doing dress refashions, like you! Except, not at all like you because I don’t know what I’m doing!
That green dress is one of my faves, because I love the green, and you followed my rule: keep it simple, stupid! For my re-dos, I like to take vintage items and make ’em work without changing too much, and staying true to the old fashioned style of it.
Anyway, thanks for the inspiration, if anyone wants to check out my blog Craft, Thrift, or Die ([email protected]) I could always use the clicks!
Super cute and I agree elf-ish! You look good in the green too! And you always manage to show such cute men in your pictures! 2014 has to be a wonderful year for all of us! Thanks for your great ideas and fantastic attitude.
Cute and elf-ish – yep! I’m glad you made your own fun in spite of feeling blah; you’ve got the right idea. May the new year be kind to you, Jill.
Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing…love the dresss and that you always make merry no matter what….2014 will be amazing!

Thank YOU! I have many exciting plans for 2014…both for this blog and for myself. 🙂

I would have made a tofu version for you with veggie stock! 🙂
That dress looks so great on you! I like that white row of buttons, just like mistle berries or little dots of snow.
Hun that guy with the long hair, is he straight and available? He has such kind eyes and my gosh looks like he’d suit you so well!!!
He IS straight and available! If you weren’t in London, I’d totally introduce you two! 🙂 We’ve been friends for years.
Haha I’m almost taken so that’s no problem, but I meant for you my lovely x
Imagine being a scrooge like me! Is not that I don’t like the holidays. I just can’t deal with all the commercialism that everyone throws at you! If it wasn’t for my child, I don’t think I would even put up a Christmas tree. You look amazing in green and your Beef Bourguignon is making me drool. Keep on trucking girlie!!
Ha!!!!!! I had that EXACT dress when I was 20 years old, That is hilarious…geez I’m old. That was 22 years ago. Looks super cute on you!
Mine would be merry too with those cuties lol:)
I always LOVE when my blog readers compliment my guy friends. I always tell them about it too. 🙂
