Day 69: Meet Me in the Piazza Dress

Today’s dress could have come right out of Designing Women. I used to love that show as a kid, but I don’t feel the need to emulate the Sugarbaker Sistersย with my own wardrobe.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s why I lopped off those pads. Next, I removed the sleeves with my seam ripper. Disarming this dress (see what I did there?) left some icky raw edges for me to deal with. I didn’t like that constricting neck either.ย  I removed the top two buttons, and stitched it into a much nicer V.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ We’re almost done!ย  I used my red thread to tie the tops of the shoulders of the dress oh-so-tightly.ย  This…

    Day 68: No Mo Polo

Today’s piece began as one of my least favorite garments. I really hate Polo shirts.ย  I’ve had to wear them all too often in service industry jobs of days past.ย  They always look like uniform shirts to me, even this one with its funky frayed hems and exposed seams. I mean, come on!ย  This is Labor Day!ย  The last thing I want to be reminded of is work!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ Not to worry! All this top required was a few snips! I’m muuuuch happier with this top now.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ See that long dress I’m sporting under my new top?ย  The length was necessary to cover this: Urban Dictionary defines a Cankle…

    Day 67: Pop Festival Dress

Today’s piece started out as a perfectly fine Hippie Skirt. But in case you haven’t noticed, I have a hard time wearing anything how it’s intended to be worn.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ I took this skirt and put in on my dress form, upside-down and inside-out.ย  I pinned it where I wanted to new shoulders to be, and a bit further down each side to make peekaboo batwing sleeves.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ Next, I ran the pin parts through my machine to stitch them down. Now I have a perfectly light and comfy dress to wear for this: Whaddya think? Here’s a close-up of those sleeves!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope everyone is having a wonderful…

    Day 66: Pride Dress

One of my favorite thrift stores has just doubled its price for clothing.ย  Now it all costs $1.ย  ๐Ÿ˜›ย  While this is a 100% increase (which would be unheard of if this was…say…Starbucks), I think I’ll let it slide.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ When I bought this colorful skirt for $1, I thought it would be perfect for the 2011 SC Pride Celebration.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ The lightweight fabric was just what I needed for an afternoon listening to music and hanging out with friends in Finlay Park.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ Unfortunately, the bottom hem was coming undone. I quickly ran the bottom hem through my machine and fixed it. Of course, I wasn’t going to wear…

Day 65: The Easiest Dress Refashion Ever

When I bought this dress for $1, I was really only wanting it for the fabric.ย  My plan is to cut it up and make it something else entirely. But before I do that, I’m going to show you one of the easiest no-sew dress refashions ever!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ First, I cut out those shoulder pads. Then I buttoned the top a little more than halfway, turned it backwards, and tied the sleeves in the back, like so: And now I have a cute strapless maxi dress!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ Some of you long-time followers who are super-observant might remember me doing pretty much the same thing with this dress, only with less…
