Day 173: Herbie the Door Mouse

Several months ago, I made this sweet set of mouse ears for my buddy, Herbie.  He’s dressed as the door mouse from Alice in Wonderland!  🙂 When he dropped off the materials to make the ears, he left me with yards of grey felt…waaaaay more than I really needed. Fast forward to today, when my landlord did his annual walk-through of our house.  He noticed that my front door was a little drafty.  I knew EXACTLY what I was going…

    Day 171: The Baxter Chair

This is a dingy once-white chair. This is how it got that way. My friends Phillip and David didn’t want to get rid of the chair any more than they wanted to get rid of their beloved Baxter, but after trying to wash those dingy spots away, what could they do? Fortunately, this chair is one of those IKEA numbas, so what we’re looking at is a stained cover.  They gave it to me, hoping to end up with a…

Day 168: Scrap Bustin’ Pin Cushion

For today’s refashion, I grabbed a handful of scraps… …and made a sweet new pin cushion! I took one of my prettiest buttons from my huge button box, and used it to tuft the center (just like a pillow!).  I think I’ll make a few more of these, and give them away as stocking stuffers! …Just another fun way to use up those scraps!

    Day 161: DIY Laundry Detergent

By now you’ve probably figured out that I’m fairly friggin frugal.  🙂  I came to the decision to start making and remaking my own clothes when I walked by an expensive dress shop and thought, “Hey…I can do that!”  Since then, I’ve been looking at other things I think I pay too much for that I could probably make for myself. One of these things is Laundry Detergent.  Fella and I pay just under $10 for a bottle of Tide…

Day 149: Kitty Christmas at Pets, Inc.!

Christmas came early for the sweet kitties at Pets, Inc:  The Carolinas Humane Society.  🙂  I had a bunch of shoulder pads left over from refashioning all those old lady dresses, and I thought of a really fun use for them…Catnip Mice for local shelter cats!  🙂 I gathered my pads, folded them in half, and sewed them up.  Then I stuffed them with catnip. Then, I stitched them up, using scraps to give them all tails and ears.  🙂…

Day 148: A Star is Born

I love the day after Thanksgiving!  One of my favorite things about it (it ranks right up there with gnoshing on tasty leftovers all day) is decorating the Christmas tree!  🙂 Sadly, our tree was missing a little something.  I filled it with ornaments and lights, but the top was still bare.  :/ Time to get to work! I used the bottom scrap from Day 24 and a shoulder pad from Day 63. First I had Fella draw a star…
