Day 339: Miss Fix It Dress
A less observant refashionista might not have noticed anything amiss with today’s dress. But look a little closer! Some of the black stripes have bled onto the white stripes, making the whole thing look pretty shabby from close up. Also, the length was just a tad too long for my tastes. I got started by chopping off some of the bottom fabric. Then, I started a dye bath with these guys: Some of you are probably wondering what’s up with…
Day 338: Spoleto Dress
Today’s dress was a freebie from a friend. 🙂 I needed something comfy, light, and fun to wear for the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. With just a few modifications, this dress would work just fine! At first glance, you might not see anything wrong with this one…but let’s delve a bit deeper, shall we? I don’t like it. It fits perfectly, but I don’t like the whole red & white color scheme (too stark!), the length is awful, and…
Day 337: An Art Collector’s ’90s Collared Dress Refashion
Wow! Check out this mumsy number! :/
Day 335: Turtleneck Skirt
I hate turtlenecks and they hate me. I love tacky prints, and this one definitely fits the bill, but it just isn’t working for me as a top…and certainly not as a turtleneck top! :/ Of course, I have a plan! First, I pinned straight along the side seams, all the way down through the sleeves. Then, I stitched those side seams down! I cut off the extra side fabric, and trimmed straight across that atrosh neckline. Now I have…
Day 334: Room for Improvement Dress
Today’s dress is from the “Little Old Church Lady” collection. 🙂 Note those massive shoulder pads (the higher the shoulders, the closer to God?), that unraveling doily of a collar, and that uber-unflattering dropped angular waist! I really have my work cut out for me with this one, folks! Speaking of cutting… I used the bottom scrap as a sort of obi belt, and put the dress on backwards (to give me a less stifling neckline). Now I have a…
Day 333: Wave of Mutilation Dress
Don’t be scared by the title of today’s post! Tis merely the title of one of my fave Pixies songs that is oddly fitting for today’s dress (you can listen to this fun song of destruction right here)! 🙂 It doesn’t look all that bad, does it? I’m a bit bummed about that, as when I bought this dress, it was flippin’ huge. But since I’m too poor to I don’t usually dry clean anything (no matter what the label…
