When Kassie of The Olive Ant gave me this dress to play with, I knew it was going to need to couple of changes!

I’m one of those girls who just can’t wear white. It makes my skin look sallow and sad, and it’s just a matter of time before I end up spilling mustard or marinara sauce all over myself.
You can probably guess what happened next…

Here’s what my new dress looked like mid-bath.

When my dress was dried, I liked it much better, but still needed to amputate those ruffly things!

Here’s my new frock now!

Cheers!
Amazing!
Wow my favourite by far! Gorgeous colour 🙂
Hey!
I just wondered if you’d ever heard of a product called iDye? We have it over here in the UK, so I don’t know if you do, but it’s worth a shot.
It dyes polyester! And nylon.
But I thought, because you always mention how you can’t dye polyester, if you ever wanted to, iDye is a really great dye to use!
🙂
Thank you! I actually bought this same dress from a Macy’s sale rack years ago and I have had every intention to take it to the nearest thrift store to be rid of it. I’m very happy to have come across this, the after version is too cute!
Awesome!! You really have an eye for coloring clothes. It looks great! All the deals you get in the US make me want to move there! Vancouver doesn’t have great deals like that.
I love the color! And something about the after shots make you look really tall. 🙂
I have looked and looked for a pair of hot pink capri pants to go with a top I refashioned and a shrug. Wouldn’t you know I would get a stain on my white capri pants, so I bought some Rit dye. It was amazing, the pants were the exact right color and have transformed my outfit. Thanks for all of your instructions and inspirations.
This is crazy…I refashioned this EXACT dress back in February! I have been reading your blog for awhile now and I look at clothes from such a different angle now. I love finding pieces at garage sales and altering them to fit. Thanks so much for being an inspiration! Here’s the link to my blog so you can check out my refashion. http://handsomelittleman.blogspot.com/2014/02/refashion.html
I love yours…especially the color change. I think I might do that to mine as well!
Lyndsay
Very cool Lyndsay.. It is exactly the same dress, and great to see your take on it. Both yours and Jillian’s look fantastic. Well done 🙂
What dye ratio did you do to get that amazing color?
I used what was left of the fuchsia and then a larger dash of orange. In other words…no real ratio. I just play! 🙂
I am now inspired to dye my own orange dress!
What a fantastic colour! Very vibrant. I love it!
Very cute! It’s amazing what a simple dye job can do to a garment. 🙂
This weekend, I pulled out and old dress that I feel silly wearing because of these dumb ruffles on the straps. I thought of you, got out my scissors, and just chopped them off. I would never have done that without having read your blog — thank you for giving me permission to hack sh*it off of my own clothes whenever it suits me! 🙂
This is awesome. I love the color, I love the new dress. Perfect for summer.
The colour is awesome and I agree I spill on myself instantly I wear white or cream.
Love the colour and with a small change you transformed it!
Beautiful! Love the color.
Very cute…love the color, looks amazing on you. Have a dye question for you. How do you keep your dyed projects from leeching dye onto other clothing when you wash them? I’ve dyed several things and even though I follow the instructions and use the rinse additive for setting the dye, the dye always leeches out in the wash. Do you wash the dyed items by hand?
I’ve never had an issue with this. I wash everything in cold water after it’s dyed, and it does fine. Maybe you need to rinse yours more immediately after dying?
Another adorable re-do. You are giving me the courage to use dye. Thank you!
Very nice. Enjoyed meeting you at the museum. You have great talent
Love the color and love that you snipped off those ruffles!! It looks great
Love the color! Perfect for summer. I always enjoy your posts.
Well done!
Gorgeous dye job!
LOVE!!!! This new color looks amaze! I am inspired to give something like this a try!
