The World’s End Top

Basil Dress: Dyeing Over a Printed Fabric
The Blind Pepper

When I found this $1 jumper at the thrift shop, I thought it might be fine as-is.  But when I tried it on, I noticed something.

If I moved my hands, you'd notice it too. :/
If I moved my hands, you’d notice it too. :/

Do you remember how I said this jumpsuit gave me a case of camel toe that rivaled the Prancercise Lady’s?  Well…we have a NEW winner!  :/  There’s no way in hades I’m going out in public while wearing this thing…not as-is anywho!

I grabbed my scissors and started cutting!  First, I snipped off those tiny ruffly things from the front of the jumper.

Snippity snip!
Snippity snip!

Then, I cut the seams from the crotchal region of the jumpsuit, like so:

Snnnnnip!
Snnnnnip!

Almost done!  🙂  I pinned the cut-up crotch part to make a straight line with what would end up being my new top.

See?
See?

I stitched each side down…

Whirrrrrrrr!
Whirrrrrrrr!

…then chopped off the excess material with my pinking shears.  since the original hem of the former shorts lined up perfectly, I didn’t have to stitch a new one.  🙂

I tossed on my new top, and headed off to a movie night with friends!

Did I mention it has pockets?!?
Did I mention it has pockets?!?

Our film du jour was this bit of Simon Peg/Nick Frost awesomeness!

You need to see this!

You’re probably wondering why I’m holding the head of one of our former presidents on my hand.  For some delightful reason, our host had a few laying out for our enjoyment (and confusion).

The mind reels!

Of course, masks are always fun!

Two of my least fave prezzies!

Hmmmmn.

GAAAAAAAH!!!!!
GAAAAAAAH!!!!!

Behold!
Behold!

As some of you who know, I’m going off the sauce for a couple of weeks.  This was Day 1.

Don't worry! It's just (non-alcoholic) Ginger Beer! :)
Don’t worry! It’s just (non-alcoholic) Ginger Beer! 🙂

I have good & healthy reasons for giving my beloved booze a break.  But as you can see, I’m still fully capable of being interesting & weird without it.  😉

  1. Much better as a top 😉

The Worlds End……pure class along with the rest of the Cornetto Trilogy.
I would quote from the film about you drinking “rain” but shall spare your readers the expletives 😉

  3. I don’t understand jumpers either but it does make a wonderful top! Seriously jumpers are apparently a trend even in plus sized fashion. I don’t even know how that works. I also need to see that movie. Also as a side note have you ever tried refashioning shoes? I just painted zombie shoes and now I totally want to do more shoe things lol.

  4. My daughter and I happened across your blog and ended up going through the entire thing in one sitting – we couldn’t get enough!!! Fantastic makeovers and we love spending time upcycling Goodwill finds. But, ummm, afterwards my daughter said, do you think she might drink too much? I said, noooo, she has a very social life, writes reviews, goes to openings and has lots of get togethers with friends for special occasions. Drinking or not, you are so completely and amazingly talented and interesting. Support over the airwaves for whatever you choose to do for whatever reason, we love your creative spirit. Be happy for you are watched and admired across the country (I know, sometimes easier said than done).

  5. Photo caption: “A Nose For An Eye” Sharing a twizzler ends tragically between ex prezzies when Ronnie chomps off Tricky Dicky’s schnoz when he used his schnoz to poke Ronnie’s eye in a bid to eat most of the twizzler!
Haha sounds dumb but I tried! Nice jumpsuit save, one less camel toe in the world is a good thing!!

  6. Great re-make! The fabric reminds me of that cool retro Hawaiian bark-cloth. Good luck with your booze free days. There are tons of recipes for tasty non-alcoholic mixed drinks. Cheers!

  7. This top is adorable!!! As a mother of 4 kids close to you in age, I’m happy that you are going off the booze. If it occurred to you to do it, you needed to do it to be the best that you can be. And that’s pretty darn awesome!! Your friend and admirer, Jayne!

  8. I’ve never quite understood jumpers, but the thought never occurred to me to make one into a top! Brilliant!

I’m glad you’re just as weird without the booze! You’re wonderful even without brain altering chemicals. haha!

  9. I LOVE this refashion!! It’s my favorite in a while. Maybe it’s the colors? The fit is perfect too. So happy for your new adventure. I’ve never liked the taste or feel of alcohol (in any form) so I can’t entirely relate to this, but I imagine you’ll be learning a lot from your experience and I look forward to hearing about it.
    p.s.
I thought my husband was the only person in the world who said ‘crotchal’ LOL

  10. Glad you enjoyed the film – it was made in the next town to where I live, and in fact the cinema where I saw it was one of the locations. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost had recorded a special intro to the film just for that cinema – really cool!

  11. I’m so glad to hear you’re cutting off the alcohol. When you posted about being blah and unmotivated, I worried that the alcohol was having a negative effect on your body chemistry. I’ll be rooting for you and expect to see the best posts ever!

  12. Really cute top & way more flattering as a top than as a jumpsuit! (Of course the awkward “I’m hiding the camel toe pose could have influenced that) 🙂

  13. FYI, you can lower the crotch simply by sewing a deeper hem through the crotch line. It seems counter intuitive, but it works.

  14. I am so glad you are taking a drinking break. Been there and done that. I would have taken the ruffles and added to the crotch of the jumpsuit. But your idea is was cuter. Grandma.
