Hello! As you can see there are some big changes happening here at ReFashionista! I have a few more tweaks to make to the new site, so just bear with me for a few more days, okay? 🙂
But in the meantime, Let’s get to Wannabe Wednesday, shall we?
I was inspired by the Ressica Tunic from Anthropologie.

Little Miss Blonde & Limbsome’s top is all sorts of Boho awesomeness, but could I make a similar top from this $1 thrifted dress?

To get started, I removed some paddage!

Then, I chopped of the sleeves a bit.

I threw this pleated nightmare on my dress form and started pinning.

I stitched it down…

I became exhausted dealing with all the pleats of the skirt, so I went ahead and chopped it off.

What I failed to think of was how that lining/pleats combo needed to be separated in order to be made not super-duper bulky and weird. :/
I cut off the excess material and discovered my top was looking fairly awful.
Sooooo…I cut out the lining and re-took the whole thing in again.

I hemmed the raw edges, like so:

And now my new top isn’t quite identical to the original, but after the frustrations of slippery fabric, nightmarish pleats, and an annoying lining, it’ll do. 🙂

Cheers!
I like yours better.
Love it and the new look of the site
Great job! I love this refashion…..and I think I like your version better than the original.
I absolutely LOVE your blog! I’ve been following it for awhile now and it’s is so inspirational how you turn these clothes around into something fun fashionable and straight up awesome! 🙂 you’re re fashions have inspired me to start up some of my own, and as a plus size gal it’s opened up a lot more clothing and wardrobe options for me. You go girl! Keep up the AWESOME blog!
Thank you so much Becca! I hope you’ll share some of your refashes with me! 🙂 Viva la Refashion!
Wow! Love the clean new look of your blog! It’s amazing how you transformed that big ol’ dress, too.
Love the new look of the site. Kudos, because alot of sites revamp and get just too different from what the reader (me) is used to and thus, loose my interest. Yours just got better!!
Thanks so much! 🙂 I’m glad you like! 🙂
Very cute, and the site is great!
I love your top! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and really am amazed at your talent, your creativity, and your eye for seeing what can be created. You are an inspiration. Love the look of the blog and looking forward to seeing what you do this year.
Thanks so very much! 🙂
Cute shirt and cute little bed!
I think it’s a pretty good dupe. Love the new site

I’m visiting SC later this spring. I have no plan and I’m just going to tour around for a few days. Since I’m an aspiring Refashionista, which thrift shops should I check out?
I would have left the sleeves loose. They look too tight.
I agree. I should have left them a bit looser.
The new layout looks great!
Thank you! It’s been an ordeal, but I’m pretty happy with it!
I like your top better, actually, and your vapid model face is way better, too 🙂
The new look of the blog is great! Much easier to navigate and I like that you have more than one post on the homepage now! Can’t wait to witness the final look! Great job on working with slippery fabric– I’ve done that myself, and it is a major pain! Bravo.
I love your blog’s new look! I might have done a few things differently (regarding buttons), but your top turned out great. Can’t wait to see what you do with the skirt scrap! It’s a fun print.
Adorable top, good job!
I very much like this transformation, very cute. Now I am getting encouraged to try some of those myself, as soon as the weather changes I am off to a resale store and see what I can come up with, there must be something, that one special item just for ME.
Have a good day

This turned out really cute!
Very cool!! What are you going to do with all that left over fabric??
The blog redesign is great! I think the top is awesome, and I am so glad that you didn’t do the high-lo hem on it…I am so over that look (just me personally). Kinda wondering…will that bottom scrap make a nice cover-up sarong come Summer?
LOVE the blog redesign. And love top too!
I imagine pleats would be a pain to work with, but you pulled it off! The new look for the blog is great too!
I love it. It’s so exciting to see you take risk with fabric. I need to move beyond being afraid of ruining it and just do it. I can tell your a risk taker. Haha
We have that same painting in our living room!
I like yours better
Yours is casual and smart, I like that.
It looks great!
Well done!
Once again, you’ve made it your own…….very cute creation!
Arrrrggghh, new theme is amazing. I have always thought the content on your blog is great but now it looks cool too! Great job 🙂
Thank you so much! It was a long time coming with more fancy things on the way!
Beats the original!!
The new look is great! First time in months I can see the pics without clicking them!!! Nice save also!
It’s not an exact copy, but I love it! The inspiration is clearly there, and it looks great!
I love it when you can get a huge dress for $1! This turned out super cute~
Actually, I think it’s cuter! You are adorable
I like yours better 🙂
